GOP Rep. Says the Entire State of Montana
Can’t Make Room for 75 Afghan Refugees
September 17, 2021
The first group of Afghan refugees will
be resettled in communities around the
U.S. beginning next month, but Montana
GOP congressman Matt Rosendale is
particularly mad about the group of
refugees that he thinks will be "flooding"
his state.
All 75 of them.
Rosendale questioned the Biden
administration’s "vetting" of the refugees
in a Thursday Twitter thread, complaining
that the vetting process usually takes
more than a year, and implying that
resettling the refugees in one of the
least dense states in the country would
endanger Montanans.

The density of the population is not the issue, the issue is that
Afghanistan has long been a lawless place and it is reasonable for
people to be concerned about those being placed in their communities.
     Gads.
Some of us remember the same xenophobia when
it came to settling the Vietnamese refugees. And
the Iraqi refugees. And the Jewish refugees.
Besides, pastor, didn't your god order you to
WELCOME refugees?
[...]
If you will read what I actually wrote, you will notice that I said that concern
is reasonable,
Hartung is too stupid to realize he just engaged in the exact equivalent of
racial profiling, and he just admitted that he believes the cops are right to
stop black for "driving while black." That's *exactly* the same rationale he
and the other right-wingnut racists here invoke to justify the cops stopping
people for DWB: blacks commit far more crimes than whites; therefore if the
cops stop a random black driver — about whom they have *NO* reasonable suspicion
— that hapless black driver is statistically more likely to have been involved
in a crime than a random white driver, so Hartung feels the stop is justified.
It isn't, of course, because the cops have no reasonable suspicion about the
driver they stopped; they only see his race.

Afghanistan may be "lawless," but Hartung knows *nothing* about the refugees
being settled other than their ethnicity and national origin. He is engaging in
profiling to say that "concern is reasonable." No, the concern is 100%
*UN*-reasonable. It's identical to racial profiling.

Hartung is a racist. Anyone who supports ethnic/racial profiling is a racist by
definition. Gak is such a racist.

Naturally Hartung runs away from this, screaming in terror.
